Jennifer Musico is a veteran literary publicist with over a decade of experience working with authors to help expand their media platform and promote their brand. During both her tenure at Hachette Book Group, one of the world’s leading publishing houses, as well as the award-winning literary publicity firm Media Connect (a division of Finn Partners and formerly Planned Television Arts), Jennifer developed and executed both traditional and online publicity campaigns for leadership, career, personal finance, lifestyle, and other non-fiction topics, as well as a number of fiction genres. Jennifer’s diverse past publicity campaigns have included National TV, radio and print, media and speaking tours, satellite TV and radio tours, and online promotions. Jennifer has worked with a wide variety of best-selling non-fiction authors including Jack Otter, Executive Editor at CBS MoneyWatch and author of Worth It … Not Worth It?; Joe Terranova, CNBC contributor and author of Buy High, Sell Higher; and the late Gordon Murray, author of The Investment Answer. Mysia Haight is a freelance copywriter for the publishing industry. Over her 20-year career, she has worked on books of every genre, from business to mystery, and written thousands of press releases. Before going solo, she worked as an in-house publicist for Warner Books, New American Library, Dell, AMACOM Books, and The Free Press. She also writes book proposals for prospective authors, creates marketing materials for small business owners, and tutors high school and college students in writing and English literature. An advocate for adoption and a devoted mom, she juggles meeting the needs of her clients with catering to the demands of teenagers. A native of New York’s scenic Hudson Valley, she lives in Northern New Jersey.
Sonya Bonczek is communications professional with a decade of consumer PR experience working for both established companies and scrappy start-ups. With an expertise in the publishing, lifestyle/food and consumer technology industries, Sonya is passionate about building brands through strategic media, content and thought leadership to help creative people get paid. Sonya began her career as a book publicist at Random House, where she was yelled at by Barbara Walters on her first day of work. Throughout her tenure in publishing, Sonya worked on a broad range of publicity campaigns including the New York Times bestsellers OPEN by Andre Agassi, Pulitzer-Prize winner Michael Moss’ SALT SUGAR FAT, Dave Cullen’s COLUMBINE and Sebastian Junger’s WAR. At Grand Central Publishing, Sonya led publicity for the Life & Style imprint, working with Wolfgang Puck, Daniel Boulud, Rocco DiSpirito, Rip Esselstyn, Bo Burnham, David Cross and Bob Odenkirk. Sonya also ran PR at Plated, a food tech company that sends customers pre-portioned ingredients and chef-designed recipes, and was head of communications at Mimo, a Boston-based startup that built the world’s first wearable baby monitor. So, while Sonya definitely has a thing for consumer technology, she will always be a book girl at heart. With a knack for writing and interesting storytelling, one of Sonya’s favorite aspects of book publicity is being able to champion authors and the effect that their work has on the world.
Andrea Smith worked as the Literary Producer for the TODAY Show for 15 years She was responsible for deciding which authors would appear on TODAY and supervised all author segments. Andrea created and produced TODAY’s Book Club, recommended books to NBC Entertainment for possible TV movies or specials, helped coordinate bookings of key authors with DATELINE, was instrumental in suggesting author experts for breaking stories on TODAY and introduced such famed authors as J.K. Rowling, John Grisham and Dan Brown to the nation. She was honored by BOOK MAGAZINE as “one of the ten people who decide what America reads” (along with Oprah Winfrey, John Grisham, J.K. Rowling and 6 others) and has won an Emmy Award for her work.
Previously Andrea was a Segment Producer at TODAY for 15 years. In that capacity, she traveled around the world covering breaking news. During that time, she produced, researched and wrote segments for Tom Brokaw, Jane Pauley, Bryant Gumbel, Deborah Norville, Connie Chung, Ann Curry, Matt Lauer and Katie Couric. Andrea has conducted information sessions at BookExpo and the Publishers’ Publicity Association for book publicists on how best to pitch authors to morning shows.
After Andrea left TODAY, she worked as Senior Publicist at Simon & Schuster, Atria Books. She was in charge of publicity for major authors and booked them for television, major newspapers and magazines (including GMA, TODAY, CBS This Morning and People Magazine). She also arranged author tours, conducted social media publicity, wrote press releases and maintained contact with authors, editors and agents. Andrea has a Master’s degree in Journalism from the University of California at Berkeley, completed the Radcliffe College Publishing Procedures Course and received a B.A. from Barnard College (Columbia University).
